York Community Acupuncture

Acupuncture in York, at affordable rates.

The Clinic's ethos is to provide financially accessible acupuncture to the majority of people.

Most UK acupuncturists treat patients individually and charge anything between £30 and £60 per treatment. This is not traditional in China, where acupuncture usually occurs in a community setting and is relatively inexpensive.

Treating patients together has many benefits: patients find it comforting, and a collective energetic field becomes established which actually makes individual treatments more powerful.

We have a sliding scale of fees, so those on low incomes pay less than those with a higher income. The initial consultation is free and takes place in private. Subsequent treatments take place alongside other people.

Treatments are priced at £10, £15 or £18 depending on level of income, but we do not ask any questions about income, so rely on people's honesty.

How can you offer treatment at such low rates?

By treating more than one person in a room together, rent overheads are reduced. Acupuncture needles often take about 20 minutes to do their work, which means that a practitioner can put in one patient’s needles, leave them to relax into their treatment, and then move on to another patient.

By treating more than one patient each hour, we can reduce the price of each treatment, but still be able to earn a reasonable hourly rate.

We want to make it possible for you to receive acupuncture regularly enough and long enough to get better and stay better.

We want to give you the tools to take care of your own health so that you will not need to rely on powerful drugs or high-tech interventions, so saving NHS resources.

Commitment

Acupuncture is a PROCESS. It is very rare for any acupuncturist to be able to resolve a problem with one treatment. In China, a typical treatment protocol for a chronic condition could be acupuncture every other day for three months. Most patients don’t need that much acupuncture, but virtually every patient requires a course of treatment, rather than a single treatment, in order to get what they want from acupuncture

If you don’t come in often enough or long enough, acupuncture probably won’t work for you. The purpose of the sliding scale is to help patients to afford to make that commitment.

 What happens during a treatment?

The initial consultation, which includes the first treatment, takes approximately one hour and is conducted in private. You will be asked not only about the problem you have come with, but also many other aspects of your health and lifestyle. Subsequent treatments take place in the community clinic room alongside other patients.

For most people, treatment can take place here relaxing on a treatment couch. For some patients the points used may require treatment to take place behind a screen, to maintain privacy and dignity.

For a few patients, we may recommend one to one treatments initially, as their condition may require longer or more complex treatment than can be accommodated within the community clinic. Some patients may only wish to be treated on a one to one basis and this can also be arranged. One to one treatments are currently charged at £32 per treatment.

Each treatment consists of a number of fine needles being inserted at specific points according to your particular diagnosis. Most patients experience this sensation as a tingling or dull ache.
